Bot-watch 2007

It’s back!!!

Are YOU at risk?

Last year, using data supplied by you, we started a scheme to monitor the spread of bots across the UK through the summer. With the UK weather undergoing extreme variability, it means that even some areas previously unaffected by this pest may start to show signs of a population build up meaning that owners are going to have to be sure to use a strategic control measure to deal with the parasitic stage during the winter months.

Some interesting data came in during our first year of Bot-watch, so a big thank-you to all of you who contributed. You can continue to help increase the information levels by letting us know when you first see bot eggs on your horses. Simply contact us and just let us know the date you see the eggs, and the area where you live. You don’t even have to be a customer, and have absolutely no obligation to use our services.

Running a show? Looking for sponsors?

Can Abbey Diagnostics help You?

If you are organising a show within 50 miles of our Suffolk base, and are looking for sponsors, then why not contact us and we may be able to sponsor classes by providing prizes etc. Contact Dr Chris Dolby in the first instance.

The Abbey Diagnostics Loyalty Scheme

We’re pleased to say that our Loyalty scheme is proving to be a great success, with many owners taking advantage of the free counts they earn throughout the year. The scheme is continuing to run, with the slight alteration in that you now start earning points for each paid sample as soon as you send your first samples in.

Are you running an equine charity?

We are pleased to be continuing our long-time association with various charities which range from equine rescue centres to a charitable riding group which allows youngsters who would normally never see a horse or pony a chance to ride and learn about pony care.

If you are involved with an animal charity and you feel that you could benefit from our services, get in touch and let us know.

What is this?????

You know how it is - you’re merrily working away in the paddocks equipped with a shovel and a wheelbarrow, clearing up the handiwork of your horses when you see something lurking in one of the piles which you have just lifted. What is it??? Should I worry???

Did you know that we have a free service to which you can send a sample of these “unidentified wriggling objects” ? Just call us on 01638 552122 to get a “What Is This??” collection kit sent out, or to discuss the best way to take a sample for sending immediately.

Bot-watch 2006

New this year, we have set up “Bot-watch”*, a service to horse owners across the UK…..

Using data supplied by you, we have started a scheme to monitor the spread of bots across the UK through the summer.   With the UK weather undergoing extreme variability, it means that even some areas previously unaffected by this pest may start to show signs of a population build up meaning that owners are going to have to be sure to use a strategic control measure to deal with the parasitic stage during the winter months.

You can help to increase the information levels by letting us know when you first see bot eggs on your horses.   Simply contact us  and just let us know the date you see the eggs, and the area where you live.   You don’t even have to be a customer, and have absolutely no obligation to use our services.

The Abbey Diagnostics Loyalty Scheme

With so many of our clients using our services on a regular basis, we have now started a Loyalty Scheme which will come into operation in January 2006.   Each sample sent in by customers using us 2 or more times a year will earn one point per paid sample, with a total of 10 points earning a free test on the next occasion.   Your Loyalty points are detailed on the results sheets sent out after each test, and will be held in the database at Abbey Diagnostics.   Once 10 points are reached, a voucher for a free test will be sent out.

The Abbey Diagnostics Yard Pack

Our highly popular series of information sheets is now available as a folder-bound laminated set, ideal for use on the stable yard.   Easy to clean off any spills or smears or those inevitable coffee stains!!   Each laminated set of 7 information sheets costs just £2.50 post free, and any new sheets which become available at a later date will be sent out free of charge.   If you are interested in acquiring a set for your yard, then just give us a call or drop us a mail and place your order.

Individual, un-laminated sheets will, of course, still be available free of charge by request.

The Abbey Diagnostics Worm Count Brochure

Not everyone has internet access to be able to find out about parasites, worm counts or about the services that we offer.   For this reason, we are now happy to be able to supply people with a FREE, no-obligation brochure which will contain much of the information from the website (facts about the parasites and all about worm counts and how to use them) along with full details of all the services available and how these can be integrated into the current worming strategy.

So, if you have horse-owning friends and relatives who you think would be interested in finding out more, but can’t get on line, then we’d be happy to hear from them by ‘phone, (or via you) and to send them a free brochure

Call us on 01638 552122.

The Abbey Diagnostics Resistance Screen

With resistance to benzamidazole wormers on the increase, we are keen to help owners maximise their worming strategies. The Resistance Screen allow owners wishing to, or having to, continue using this family of chemicals to assess the efficacy of benzamidazoles in their horses. Resistance Screening will allow owners to get an early warning of resistance if it is present, thus allowing them to make alternative parasite control arrangements.

The Abbey Diagnostics Resistance Screen comprises a maximum of 4 tests performed at times worked out for each specific horse being tested and depending on the preliminary test result. Preliminary tests are charged at the normal rate for either new or regular clients, with subsequent tests charged at a maximum of £4.00 per sample.

An information sheet giving details of the procedure is available on request. Either contact us by e-mail or call 01638 552122.

Abbey Diagnostics is expanding to encompass testing of goats and other livestock

Yes, goats get worms too!! Abbey Diagnostics is now able to perform faecal worm-egg counts on samples from goats, with sampling of other livestock to follow soon. Costs are as given in the price list for horses. Just contact us by e-mail or call us on 01638 552122 to discuss your requirements and for further details.
