OTHER SERVICES

  • FAECAL EGG COUNT REDUCTION TEST. The option to undertake this test will be offered to all clients who send samples which return a count in excess of 300epg to enable the owner to get peace of mind that the worming treatment has worked, the cost of this test is only £4.00. Details will be sent out with the initial results. We strongly suggest that this test is undertaken if the owner chooses to use a product associated with resistance problems.
  • PAIRED SAMPLES. We offer this service to owners who are new to worm egg counts, who have only had one count performed which returns as ‘clear/low’ and who wish to move onto a reduced worming strategy. In this instance, a paired sample is taken 8 weeks after the initial test.

We always recommend that clients take samples and send them for counting at the time when the effects of the previous wormer will have worn off sufficiently to allow worm eggs to be produced again. However, sometimes clients have to send samples before this time, either on veterinary recommendation or because they are worried about a problem with the last administration of worming chemical. While the result of a count done at this time will provide information to aid a veterinary diagnosis, or to put the owner's mind at rest, it may not truly reflect the worm status of the animal under test. We therefore offer the owner the chance to submit a second sample for test at just prior to the next worming dose in order to obtain a more meaningful result which will enable them to plan their actions accordingly. The paired sample test is offered at the reduced rate of just £4.00.

  • RISK ASSESSMENT. A free service for all clients. Risk assessment is particularly important for those owners embarking on a reduced worming strategy, alerting the owner to areas within their management routines which might need attention. Particularly beneficial when run in conjunction with our “paired samples” or with a series of regular counts. Answering a few simple questions is all it takes.
  • FREE TREND REVIEWS. Do you want to see how your horses’ counts have varied over the years? Just ask us for a free trend review to receive a print out of your results over the past few tests. Useful for owners wanting to establish correlation between actions taken (alterations in paddock management, worming protocols etc) and results obtained. Our experienced scientific staff (post-doctoral level) are always happy to discuss the findings with you.
  • RESISTANCE SCREEN. This service offers owners the opportunity to assess efficacy of wormers which are known to have resistance problems. It is popular with owners who still want to use these chemicals in a worming regime, or who are on yards where the worming practice is dictated by yard policy. The Resistance Screen is performed at times worked out for each specific horse being tested and will depend on the preliminary test result and the previous worming history. Simply call for details and to discuss your requirements.
  • WHAT IS THIS????? You know how it is - you’re merrily working away in the paddocks equipped with a shovel and a wheelbarrow, clearing up the handiwork of your horses when you see something lurking in one of the piles which you have just lifted. What is it??? Should I worry???

We have a free service to which you can send a sample of these “unidentified wriggling objects”. Just call us on 01638 552122 to get a “What Is This??” collection kit sent out, or to discuss the best way to take a sample for sending immediately.
